I made a comment about Chubby Chicken today on my facebook fan page and decided to look into the calories and fat on the A&W page. Here is the verdict:
5 strips: 500 calories, 25 grams of fat and 1850mg of sodium
That is 100 calories per strip. Yuck! No wonder we have an obesity crisis in North America. People that order these fast food items most likely have no idea about the calories and fat that they are eating. I understand because when I was not educated about these things, I thought chicken strips couldn't be that bad for you. It's just chicken after all. But really, I don't recall chicken strips to be that great in taste so I am thinking that they really are not worth these calories. Blah.
If you add the honey mustard dip that goes along with the strips, you are adding another 110 calories, 9 grams of sugar, 8 grams of fat and 190mg of sodium. Wow! If you order A&W's signature large Root Beer, you are adding another 510 calories, 136 grams of sugar and 115mg of sodium!
The total amount of this meal comes to:
1120 calories, 145 grams of sugar, 185 grams of carbohydrates, 33 grams of fat (mostly from the chicken), and 2155mg of sodium.
This is just one meal.....
Think about this, this meal equals to about 12 tablespoons of sugar and just over 1 teaspoon of sodium. The recommended amount of sodium per day is less than 1500mg and 1 teaspoon is 2000mg. Also 33 grams of fat is like eating 3 tablespoons of butter, yum.
