What Are You Feeding Your Kids?

I do not have kids, but I still like to research food out there that are popular amongst families so I know what people are eating these days. I decided to do a little research on popular kids items and the nutritional value. What people are feeding their kids these days really shocks and disgusts me. Of course you cannot deprive your children of treats once in a while, but a treat in my eyes is a piece of chocolate, a small bowl of ice cream or a cookie.

Here is a list of popular foods that parents are allowing their children to eat:

McDonalds

Kids Happy Meal Chicken McNuggets(4pc) fries and 8oz low fat milk:
520 calories, 25 grams fat, 690mg sodium, 52 grams carbohydrates, 12 grams sugar, 20 grams protein

Kids Happy Meal  Hamburger, fries and 8oz low fat milk:
590 calories, 23 grams fat, 810 mg sodium, 72 grams carbohydrates, 18 grams sugar, 23 grams protein

Kids Happy Meal Cheeseburger, fries and 8oz low fat milk:
640 calories, 26 grams fat, 1040 mg sodium, 74 grams carbohydrates, 19 grams sugar, 25 grams protein

Dairy Queen

All Beef Hot Dog Kids Meal with fries:
470 calories, 25 grams fat, 1270 mg sodium, 48 grams carbohydrates, 4 grams sugar, 12 grams protein

Cheeseburger Kids Meal with fries:
580 calories, 26 grams fat, 1310 mg sodium, 60 grams carbohydrates, 9 grams sugar, 21 grams protein

Wendy's

Cheeseburger Kids Meal with fries and 12oz pop:
560 calories, 21 grams fat, 860 mg sodium, 77 grams carbohydrates, 17 grams protein

Chicken Nuggets Kids Meal with fries and 12oz pop:
(4pc) 470 calories, 21 grams fat, 520 mg sodium, 60 grams carbohydrates, 11 grams protein

These are just some examples that I could find. There are so many unhealthy choices that parents allow their kids to make, with or without them. Kids these days are obese, on high blood pressure medication and have other health problems. Parents need to start prepping healthy food choices for their children and setting a good example. Life is busy, but not busy enough to send your kids off to school with lunch money or drive thru breakfast.

Your children are the ones who will be running this world, and the scary thing to me is seeing all the unhealthy children that are out there now. Make an effort and lead by example. Healthy lives start in the kitchen.
