Best Things to do on a Quick Trip to Huntington Beach, California

Huntington Beach Boardwalk

Huntington Beach, California is a popular destination for passionate surfers, nicknamed Surf City, USA. The city’s 9.5-mile long sandy beach attracts millions of visitors year-round, and many have decided to stay, making Huntington Beach one of the fastest growing cities on the West Coast. Huntington Beach, California has a unique beach town vibe that is half exciting and half laid-back, and all visitors seem to fall in love with it. On my short visit here, I realized there are so many cool and fun things to do! I missed out on some great things here, but I believe these are 5 great things to do in Huntington Beach, California.

Huntington Beach Pier

Huntington Beach Pier
If you keep walking from Main Street and cross the Pacific Coast Highway and the beach, you will end up at the Huntington Beach Pier, one of the top Huntington Beach attractions. The iconic heart of the city, its only purpose is pure fun. It invites visitors to enjoy a stroll along its 1,850 feet that stretch all the way to the Ruby's Surf City Diner. It is the place where people come to watch surfers and where local surfers come to hang out.

The pier is also a favourite among fishermen, even young beginners who are learning how to cast a line. The beautiful sunsets attract hundreds of tourists every evening.

Downtown Huntington Beach

Downtown Huntington Beach
No other city besides Huntington Beach can say that their downtown consists of a pier and the best beach in town, bars, fabulous restaurants, ice cream shops, nail salons, and unique fashion boutiques. Downtown Huntington Beach is made for fun for all in Surf City, USA.

If you are wondering what to do in Huntington Beach today, there is always something happening downtown, but on Tuesdays during Surf City Nights, the city really comes alive. Three blocks of Main Street are closed for traffic and lined with sidewalk stalls selling everything from farmers’ fresh produce to flowers and crafts. There is music and live performances of all kinds.

Watch the Sunset at the Beach with a Bonfire
The beach itself is quite beautiful. The sand is white and clean and the beach goes on forever. Just south of the pier in front of the Pacific City, there are 500concrete fire rings. Grab a blanket, firewood, and a picnic and watch the sunset with your other half for a romantic and relaxing evening.

There was no time for surfing on this trip, but Huntington Beach is called "Surf City" for a reason. In the summer the beach attracts huge contests, crowds, and all kinds of other events, most of which happens on land.

The Vans US Open of Surfing is the world's largest surf competition and lifestyle festival, and each summer, over half a million people cruise the sand on the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier for nine free fun-filled days. The best surfers in the world come to Surf City to compete for a large prize at this annual World Surf Event.

Bella Terra Shopping Center

Bella Terra
Bella Terra is a shopping and entertainment venue located on Beach Boulevard, and offers something for everyone. There is a large range of restaurants to choose from for a date, a night out or for a quick bite with family. You can also check out the theaters and live entertainment shows throughout the year, or you can simply hang out at the gardens and fountains or in the amphitheater.

My Budget Tip!

I am not the type of girl that enjoys eating 3 meals per day at restaurants, especially with all my food intolerances. Also, eating out can damage your credit card fast, it can get really expensive!

What I highly recommend to do to save some dollars; shop at Whole Foods Markets at Bella Terra, my new favorite shopping center! If your accommodations come with an outdoor communal BBQ or a kitchen, there is a huge selection of meats that you can grill up yourself. If you don't have the luxury of cooking your own meals, Whole Foods still has options. One of the things I loved about Whole Foods; they have a HUGE salad bar with everything you can image. You can load up a salad of your liking with extra toppings and any protein you can think of, or just stick vegetarian style and still have left overs.
Whole Foods

Whole Foods has fun snacks!

In the same area of the salad bar is a deli with any and all items you can think of that range from sushi to barbeque chicken, pizza and pasta salads; grilled veggies and fruit to go, or vegan meals and desserts. There is also a smoothie bar that you can order protein smoothies, iced coffee, espresso and other drinks.
